“I like this place, and willingly could waste my time in it”
As You Like It Act 2, Scene 4

Outside Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre will be Shakespeare’s Village, with ‘wagon’ entertainment, minstrels, and the best Oxfordshire food and drinks. Access to Shakespeare’s Village is free of charge.

During Elizabethan times, actors would often travel the country performing plays on farm wagons. We will be recreating this entertainment with a daily schedule of sensational speeches, punchy plays, soulful sonnets and medieval music.

Shakespeare’s Village offers some of the finest local street food to feast on, as well as ice creams, soft drinks and a fully-licensed bar housed in the oak-framed and reed-thatched Bear Arms pub.

The village pond, farm wagons and carts, and an array of vintage farming implements will set a rustic rural scene, while tables and benches around the village will enable visitors to enjoy the atmosphere.
